E não me arrependi.
Boas Leituras!
Goodreads Review
No one can really see the quite you carry, unless you let them.
Despite what I said in one of my previous posts, that I would not be able to let go the Wheel of Time series to embark on a different reading, I managed to do just so. When I started the 4th book of the series I just felt like I wanted something different, so I opened my Netgalley folder on my Kindle and picked “The Quiet You Carry” on the hopes that it would be different enough. And I wasn’t wrong.
This book is Nikki Barthelmes debut novel, an american writer that spent part of her teen years in foster care in Nevada (from 12 to 18 years old she had 6 different homes) and she decided to translate her experience into a book. This story is not her personal story, or from anyone she knows, but a conjunction of the experiences she learned while in foster care, a system that is flawed and she knows from inside out.
We follow Victoria’s story, a 17 year old young girl that finds herself thrown out of her home by her own father overnight, and sees her life be turned upside down just when she was about to graduate. One night events send her to foster care, to Connie’s house that is ruled with an iron fist and is filled with rules and regulations. We then go on to see how she adapts to her new school, how she struggles to fit in, and how she has a difficulty in trusting someone else, seeing that the person she should trust the most failed her.
Her reactions are very believable, and it’s not hard to believe that those conflicted emotions would fill the mind of an abused teenage girl. She goes from guilt to anger to self-doubt causing such turmoil that will escalate to her environment.
As usual with Netgalley books, I have no idea if this will ever be translated to Portuguese, and it is still early to tell, as the book is only coming out next March, but I leave the recommendation anyway to all of those who like good stories, well told, about different things and settings than the ones we are used to.
Happy Readings.
